Overview

Calder Store Restaurant & Lounge, nestled at 36 Railroad St in Calder, Idaho, offers a warm, inviting space where the charm of a classic bar and grill comes alive. This rustic venue, heated by wood and decorated with stuffed animals, provides an authentic, cozy environment that invites locals and travelers alike to unwind and savor hearty American fare.

The culinary highlight revolves around comforting, expertly prepared dishes. Jeff’s Friday night prime rib has become something of a local legend, drawing eager crowds longing for a rich, perfectly cooked cut. Yet, fans gather midweek as well, especially on Wednesdays, where the chicken fried steak steals the spotlight with its golden crust and tender interior—so popular it often requires arriving early to secure a plate. Other staples like the Bacon Cheeseburger, French Dip, and various classic sides such as fries and salads round out a menu designed to satisfy a range of appetites.

More than the food, Calder Store thrives on the genuine, down-to-earth atmosphere fostered by its staff and patrons. The Julies behind the bar serve not only drinks but also kindness and laughter, grounding the place in a sense of community. Regulars talk with fondness about “Benny,” whose competitive dart skills add a playful edge to the lounge’s vibrant spirit, kept in check by the steady hand of Jasmine.

The experience here is distinctly personal. Patrons frequently note how the team remembers names and stories, making each visit feel more like coming home. While the operation hums with dedication—sometimes relying on just one waitress who also tends the kitchen—it never feels rushed or impersonal. Instead, it highlights a strong work ethic that matches the rugged, heartfelt character of the region.

Calder Store Restaurant & Lounge is a destination crafted for those who appreciate hearty, well-crafted meals within a space filled with history, laughter, and a friendly camaraderie that city eateries rarely capture. Whether you're seeking a memorable prime rib dinner on a lively Friday or a casual Wednesday supper featuring one of the best chicken fried steaks around, this bar and grill embraces you with the kind of warmth and authenticity that only a truly special local institution can offer.

This is the greatest fellow women and men anyone could ever hope to know. Julie (both Julies) bartendress's are the kindest and most wonderful women you will ever meet. Just watch out for Benny... he's rough around the edges and is a shark of the dart board ...make sure Jasmine's there to keep him under control!

Wednesday is definitely hands down the best day to go. Best chicken fried around hands down!!! I prefer this over any meal or other special that have, even their prime rib... Yep you heard me say that right. I try to make it on Wednesday's after work just for this meal. Julie is always amazing. Always friendly and provides great service as does everyone else. Pros: good service, friendly staff as well as patrons, reasonable priced. Cons: better get there early on Wednesday because they go fast!

People line up outside for Jeff’s prime rib on Friday nights. This place is bursting with character and loyalty. It would be great if they had more seasonal staff (I’m currently considering moving up river for the summer) to help keep things flowing as they get bigger crowds, but the way they manage now is with some seriously hard working and interesting members of the Calder Store staff. The French fries are top notch, there are fun Calder cocktails and classics that leave you always wanting another, and some of the best conversation you can experience in this gorgeous region. Only come in if you know a special place when you see one, or if you want great food - just be nice and appreciative!

Can't be compared to places in the city. Amazing hospitality. There was only one lady who did everything, waitress and cooked chicken fried stake for a steady stream of people. There are stuffed animals on the walls. It is only heated with wood. Well worth the experience.

Good burgers and prime rib.. Great salad bar for a small restaurant.. French fries are old fashioned real potatoes.. The restaurant is old and run down, not the best lighting or atmosphere.. But it's a very old town and if you want a place to eat it's your best and only option.. Waitress and chef are great and super friendly.. good menu with your reg cafe meals to choose from.
